Your Heritage Experience next Summer
Our internships are aimed almost exclusively at IHS alumni who want to expend on their archaeological skills, learnt from previous IHS programs. Our internships are based from our headquarters in Birr, County Offaly, which we use as a launchpad to undertake fieldwork at several leading midlands heritage sites.
Our summer internship programs of 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12 weeks focus on site survey, landscape assessment, architectural recording, archaeological and historical research, community archaeology, photogrammetry, and post-excavation. Although the focus of the field school is landscape assessment and survey, some seasons also include small scale excavations.
Our IHS internship is designed to provide valuable experience working and learning from our research and education staff in the field and laboratory/office, thus ensuring a positive learning experience and providing on-the-job training. Interns must be prepared to participate in all facets of our school, including fieldwork, administration, logistics, data management etc. They must also be prepared to interact with students, IHS staff and community members in a respectful and friendly manner. Students stay with local families in homestay accommodation, guaranteeing an enriching cultural immersion and truly memorable experience.
